An Open Letter
To: Gov. Kehoe
From: A verified voter in Jefferson City, MO
August 25, 2025
40% of Missouri voters supported Democrats in the November 2024 election. Just under 60% voted for Republicans. Yet since the redistricting that followed the 2010 census, Missouri’s representation in Congress has been 75% Republican. So it seems unexpectedly greedy for some Republicans in state and federal government to be lusting after and demanding 87.5% Republican representation in Congress for Missouri.
To redistrict mid-decade for an unjust power grab would not be fair or reasonable, and I hope you will not succumb to the intemperate demands of a few.
No matter what we look like or where we’re from, Missourians of all walks of life expect to be represented in a transparent government where politicians can’t change electoral maps on a whim.
But right now, your offices are facing intense pressure from outside the state to break our trust and illegally gerrymander our districts. This would be an unprecedented, unconstitutional scheme that threatens our democracy.
This is not a Missouri idea or plan.
Reject any attempt to gerrymander our state.
We deserve representatives and government officials who put working people first, and we expect our leaders to represent our interests by making decisions that allow Missourians to have the representation we deserve.
I will be following developments closely.
