Urgent: Demand for Action and Accountability. End ICE now.

To: Sen. Booker, Sen. Kim, Rep. Pou

From: A constituent in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ

January 24

I am writing as a deeply frustrated and concerned constituent. Enough already. The actions of this administration — and the unchecked behavior of ICE in particular — are pushing this country in a direction that is dangerous, divisive, and morally indefensible. Congress is not powerless. Yet from where I sit, it feels like far too many of you are standing by while harm is being done in our name. Oversight is weak. Accountability is lacking. And the consequences are real: families torn apart, communities living in fear, and a growing erosion of trust in our government. You were elected to be a check on executive power, not a spectator to it. I expect you to do more than issue statements or wait for political winds to shift. I expect leadership. That means pushing back against abusive practices, demanding transparency, and working aggressively to get your peers on board to enact meaningful reform. Silence and inaction are choices — and they are being noticed. This is not the country many of us believe in or want to leave to our children. Congress must step up, assert its authority, and put an end to policies that dehumanize people and undermine our values. I urge you to act with urgency, courage, and conviction. History will remember who spoke up and who looked away.
