Since returning to office, Trump has shown open contempt for the Constitution, for democratic norms, and for millions of Americans. He is not governing — he is ruling, using the tools of state to enrich the wealthy, punish the vulnerable, and shield himself and his allies from accountability. His recent actions are not just misguided policies; they are deliberate attacks on democracy itself. Here are just a few of the most disturbing developments: Abuse of power and authoritarian threats: Trump has openly threatened political opponents with arrest and retaliation. He has targeted journalists, immigrants, and even private citizens who disagree with him — often using the federal government as a weapon. Legislation designed to oppress: The “One Big, Beautiful Bill” slashes Medicaid, housing support, and food assistance for millions of working families, while giving massive tax breaks to the ultra-wealthy and corporate elite. This is not governance — it is class warfare from the top down. Incitement and normalization of political violence: Trump continues to use violent, dehumanizing language to describe his critics, while signaling approval to armed groups and conspiracy theorists. He has not backed down from the politics of January 6 — he has doubled down on them.
