Oppose H.R.2165 – Preserve Clean Air Standards and Consumer Choice

To: Sen. Booker, Sen. Kim, Rep. Sherrill

From: A verified voter in Boonton, NJ

June 26

I am writing to express my strong opposition to H.R.2165, the "Choice in Automobile Retail Sales Act of 2025," introduced by Rep. Tim Walberg. This bill seeks to amend the Clean Air Act to prevent tailpipe emissions regulations from limiting the availability of new motor vehicles based on engine type. While the bill claims to protect consumer choice, it effectively undermines the Environmental Protection Agency's authority to set necessary emissions standards that drive innovation and protect public health. By prohibiting regulations that could limit the availability of certain engine types, the bill hampers efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and combat climate change. Furthermore, this legislation could stifle the automotive industry's progress toward cleaner technologies, disadvantaging American manufacturers in the global market where demand for low-emission vehicles is increasing. It also risks public health by potentially allowing higher-emission vehicles to remain prevalent on our roads. I urge you to oppose H.R.2165 and support policies that uphold strong environmental standards, promote technological advancement, and protect public health.
