Vote NO on the Confirmation of Todd Blanche

To: Sen. Van Hollen, Sen. Alsobrooks

From: A constituent in Salisbury, MD

July 12

As a constituent deeply committed to the rule of law and the independence of our nation's legal institutions, I urge you to vote against the permanent appointment of Todd Blanche as Attorney General of the United States. A coalition of more than 1,200 former Department of Justice prosecutors, FBI officials, and career civil servants from 14 different administrations recently wrote to the Senate Judiciary Committee to strongly oppose Blanche's nomination. These former officials noted that Blanche took an oath to uphold the Constitution, yet has consistently prioritized fealty to the President over the independence of the Justice Department. Under Blanche's leadership as Acting Attorney General, the DOJ has witnessed the alarming departure of roughly 16,000 employees, many of who were forced out or resigned to protect the integrity of the institution. Furthermore, his tenure has been marked by actions that threaten the firewall between the White House and the DOJ, including the retaliatory firing of apolitical career staff and the mishandling of high-profile files. The integrity of our justice system requires leadership that answers to the Constitution and the American public—not the political interests of the White House. I ask that you stand with the signatories of the Justice Connection letter and vote to reject his confirmation. Thank you for your commitment to protecting and restoring our democracy.
