I was reading the Declaration of Independence today (as one does) and I came across a number of quotes that seem to speak directly to our present political situation.
Here's my favorite. (Is this a good description of DOGE, or what?) "He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people, and eat out their substance."
This one speaks to Trump's destruction of agencies doing important work: "He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good."
How about this one: "He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us," which describes January 6th, for sure.
And in this, just substitute "President" for "Prince" and it really says it all: "A Prince, whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people."
I recommend reading the Declaration aloud on the floors of the House and Senate. Maybe it'll wake some people up.
