Stand up for Wisconsin communities and denounce ICE’s illegal tactics
To: Sen. Hutton, Rep. Tenorio
From: A verified voter in Milwaukee, WI
January 28
I am writing to urge you to stand up for our communities and for the people you were elected to represent.
I am deeply concerned about the direction of federal immigration enforcement under Donald Trump and the expanded role of ICE in our cities. Policies that rely on fear, mass raids, and broad enforcement do not make our communities safer. Instead, they tear families apart, destabilize local economies, and erode trust between residents and local government.
Wisconsin’s cities and towns thrive when people feel safe reporting crimes, sending their children to school, going to work, and participating in civic life. When ICE operates in ways that intimidate entire communities, everyone is harmed—not just immigrants. Local law enforcement leaders, faith groups, educators, and business owners have all warned that these tactics undermine public safety rather than improve it.
I am asking you to use your position to:
• Publicly oppose policies that encourage indiscriminate or aggressive ICE actions in our communities
• Defend local control and resist federal pressure that forces Wisconsin cities to act as immigration enforcers
• Support humane, lawful, and constitutional approaches to immigration that respect due process and human dignity
Leadership matters right now. Silence or compliance sends a message that harm to our neighbors is acceptable. I expect Wisconsin’s elected officials to stand up to overreach, protect our communities, and speak clearly when federal actions threaten the well-being of the people who live here.
