Emergency preparedness for vulnerable NJ communities

March 9

I am writing as a New Jersey resident requesting clear information about emergency preparedness for communities located near military facilities, federal infrastructure, and the New York metropolitan corridor. Recent international tensions and public threats of retaliation against U.S. assets have raised understandable concerns among residents who live or work near potential strategic targets, including bases, arsenals, transportation hubs, and other critical infrastructure. Given New Jersey’s population density and proximity to New York City, many communities could be affected in the event of any escalation. For that reason, I respectfully request information on the state’s preparedness planning for civilians. Specifically: • What public safety or emergency preparedness plans exist for residents living near military installations and critical infrastructure. • Whether evacuation routes, emergency alert systems, and shelter-in-place guidance have been updated for modern threats such as missile, drone, or infrastructure attacks. • How the State of New Jersey is coordinating with federal agencies and neighboring states to ensure civilian protection and communication during a crisis. Preparedness and transparent communication are essential to maintaining public confidence and ensuring that residents know how to respond in an emergency. If such guidance already exists, I would appreciate being directed to the appropriate public resources. If not, I strongly encourage the administration to provide clear information to the public regarding emergency preparedness for communities in higher-risk areas. Thank you for your attention to this matter and for your service to the people of New Jersey.
