Oppose Gerrymandering and Ending Ballot Initiatives
To: Rep. Bell
From: A verified voter in Saint Louis, MO
September 8, 2025
I am writing as a concerned constituent to urge you to oppose the newly proposed redistricting maps that unfairly favor partisan interests and undermine the principle of fair representation. Gerrymandering distorts our democracy by allowing politicians to choose their voters, rather than voters choosing their representatives. It dilutes the voices of communities across Missouri, including my own, and erodes public trust in our electoral process.
I am also deeply concerned about recent efforts to weaken or eliminate the ballot initiative process in Missouri. The ability of citizens to directly propose and vote on laws is a foundational democratic tool that gives power to the people—especially when elected officials fail to act in the public’s best interest. Missourians of all political backgrounds have used ballot initiatives to shape our state’s future on critical issues. Any move to restrict this process is a direct attack on our rights as voters.
As your constituent, I urge you to:
• Reject the use of gerrymandered maps that prioritize partisan advantage over fair representation.
• Protect the ballot initiative process and oppose any legislation that would make it harder for citizens to place issues on the ballot or to pass them with a simple majority vote.
Our democracy depends on fair representation and citizen engagement—not manipulation and suppression. I hope you will stand with the people of Missouri and uphold these principles.
