*Oppose Louisiana v Callais and Protect Fair Representation*
I'm writing about the Supreme Court's Louisiana v Callais decision that guts Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act. This ruling makes it nearly impossible to challenge maps that dilute minority voting power, and I need you to support legislation that restores the Voting Rights Act to its original strength.
The decision creates an impossible standard by requiring proof of intentional racial discrimination while simultaneously prohibiting plaintiffs from considering race when drawing alternative maps. This contradicts Congress's 1982 amendment clarifying that proving intent wasn't necessary for Section 2 cases. The result is exactly what you said shouldn't happen: politicians choosing their voters instead of voters choosing their politicians.
Louisiana's case proves the problem. Black voters make up one-third of the state's population but had only one majority-Black district until a court ordered a second. Now the Supreme

Court says that remedial map is unconstitutional racial gerrymandering. This allows legislatures to gerrymander under the guise of partisanship while systematically diluting minority voting power.
Voters should choose their representatives. That requires districts that give all communities a meaningful voice. Support the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act or similar legislation that restores Section 2's protections and prevents both racial and partisan gerrymandering.
