End credit card fees at point of sale

To: Rep. Dovilla, Gov. DeWine, Sen. Patton

From: A constituent in Berea, OH

July 21

Please work toward the ending of the charging of fees for the use of any payment cards or electronic payments. This should be a bi-partisan issue. These are my reasons: 1) Credit card companies are already making a profit from the margins on transactions that they “hold” for hours or a certain number of days. They profit from lending/investing these monies. The should not be charging companies fees for using their services. 2) If these credit card companies do charge fees for their services, they should not be passed on to the customer. a. These fees passed on to the customer will discourage business, resulting in lower tax revenues for States. The ease of use of credit cards encourages purchases. b. Reasonable fees are a cost of doing business. c. The use of more cash payments will result in purchases on the black market and loss of tax revenue. I have seen this play out in Europe. Countries like Sweden have wisely ended the use of physical currency so as to better monitor and tax purchases. 3) Physical currency requires special equipment and procedures that also cost everyone. Please write, pass, or support legislation to end the charging of card and electronic transfer fees at point of sale.
