An Open Letter

To: Sen. Moreno

I never expected to agree with you on much, but your recent suggestion that the Olympics may need to be moved out of Los Angeles struck a chord—and not for the reasons you may have intended. The truth is, you're right: the United States does not deserve to host the world right now. We are a nation in democratic crisis, sliding closer to authoritarianism with each passing day. A would-be dictator is openly attempting to dismantle our institutions, and many in the Senate—including yourself—have chosen loyalty to power over duty to country. This is not the leadership the world should be asked to rally behind. You swore an oath to defend the Constitution, not to aid in its unraveling. Your silence or complicity in the face of democratic decay speaks volumes. The world is watching—and so are we. The Olympics represent international cooperation, mutual respect, and peace. Right now, the United States is projecting hostility, chaos, and contempt for the very values we claim to uphold. Until we return to being a nation that defends democracy, protects civil rights, and respects the rule of law, we have no business hosting the world’s stage. And let me remind you: you work for us—the people. Not for a party, not for a personality, and not for your donors. It would serve you well to remember that.
