Block the Stratos Data Center — Protect the Great Salt Lake
Take binding action to stop the Stratos data center in Hansel Valley. Six thousand Utahns signed a letter and showed up on the Capitol steps on May 14th to say the same thing. Social media posts about wanting to "do better" are not governance — they are deflection.
The Great Salt Lake is already in crisis. Approving a hyperscale data center campus that will drain water from the region, developed through MIDA in a process that bypassed normal public oversight, is not a "rushed deal" — it's a betrayal. I'm tired of being asked to conserve, to pray for rain, to sacrifice, while the state rolls out the welcome mat for Kevin O'Leary's water-sucking infrastructure project. That contradiction is not lost on anyone who lives here.
Governor Cox, use the authority of your office to block this project. Utahns are not opposed to economic development — we are opposed to trading the lake for it.
A Constituent Disgusted With The Way Republicans Are Throwing Away Democracy, And Running Into The Future Without Any Regard For Consequence. Just Like Has Been Done Too Many Other Technologies That Have Killed, Ruined Lives & Our Health And The Health Of The World. Cox Even Mentioned One. Nuclear, The Collateral Damage That Came From Rushing Headlong Into The Nuclear Bomb Program And Beyond Was Denied And Ignored. Victims Of The Extraction And Processing Processes Were Gaslit For Decades. Not To Mention The Victims Of The Two Bombs, Power Plant Accidents, And Any Of The Incidents Hidden From The Public.
Anything With The Implications That Data Centers & AI Bring With Them Must Come With Regulatory Safeguards.
