Three times in my teaching career I have been in a real lockdown. Once, I faced down a SWAT team with a gun pointed at me in front of my students as they cleared the school. I have spoken about gun violence in this country at the Montana Women's March. My children organized the March for Our Lives after Parkland. I joined Moms Demand after Sandy Hook to help lobby for common sense reforms only to listen to all of you say "Thoughts and Prayers" again and again and again. However, hard work paid off with the passage of the Safer Communities Act. In 2024, Joe Biden came to address the Moms Conference in DC. to talk about his continued plans to keep us all safer. It was at the same Washington Hilton as last night's event. The Secret Service was a visible presence and it took hours to go through clearance. Perhaps rubber stamping another unqualified individual in Mark Wayne Mullins to be in charge of security was a failure on our Senators; parts. Even more of a failure has been seeing the President take such an event to push for a ballroom on the taxpayer's dime- the same ballroom to be placed where you allowed this corrupt administration to gut US History by tearing down the East Wing. It has been the ultimate in hypocrisy to see the manifesto be touted today when this administration gutted the Safer Communities Act and all of you refuse to support Red Flag Laws. You also regularly laud Charlie Kirk who clearly said that events like last night and dead children across this country are simply necessary to keep the 2nd Amendment. The topper though today was the pathetically predictable push by Senator Sheehy to fund the ballroom by unanimous consent tomorrow. Children dying in school shootings- we just need to move on. The Secret Service not securing an event the ENTIRE line of succession decided to attend- we need to spend millions on his ridiculous attempts to turn the People's House into Mar-a-lago II. Not a dime of Montanan's money should be used on that farce. Not a dime.
