Protect Afghan ally Sayed Naser, uphold commitments to interpreters
To: Rep. Frost, Sen. Moody, Sen. Scott
From: A constituent in Winter Park, FL
June 20
The arrest of Afghan ally Sayed Naser by masked ICE agents following his immigration court hearing is deeply concerning. As a former interpreter who worked alongside U.S. forces in Afghanistan, risking his life to support our mission, Naser deserves our gratitude and protection, not detention. His brother's tragic murder by the Taliban underscores the grave danger he faces if deported. Naser fled Afghanistan fearing for his safety after we withdrew and the Taliban regained control. He patiently navigated the complex process to seek asylum in the U.S., as advised, only to have his case dismissed without proper explanation from the government. Revoking his parole and attempting to force his self-deportation despite his pending Special Immigrant Visa eligibility undermines our commitment to Afghan allies. I urge you to intervene in this case and ensure Sayed Naser receives the fair consideration he is owed as someone who put himself at risk to assist U.S. efforts. Upholding our nation's promise to protect those who aided our troops is not only the moral course of action, but crucial to preserving our credibility with potential future partners. Allies like Naser deserve to have their voices heard and their service honored through due process, not arrested in silence. Justice and human rights must prevail over arbitrary enforcement quotas.
