Veto discriminatory "Don't Say Gay" bill harming LGBTQ+ students
To: Gov. DeWine

December 19
H.B. 8, also referred to as the "Don't Say Gay" bill, should be vetoed. This legislation aims to prohibit classroom instruction on sexual orientation and gender identity in kindergarten through third grade. However, it goes beyond that by also restricting "age-inappropriate" content for older students without clear definitions. This bill promotes an unsafe, exclusionary environment for LGBTQ+ students and families. It perpetuates stigma, prejudice, and ignorance towards the LGBTQ+ community. Banning positive discussions around sexual orientation and gender identity in schools denies children access to age-appropriate information and creates an atmosphere of shame. Numerous child health and welfare organizations, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, oppose such measures as they inflict harm on vulnerable youth. Veto this discriminatory bill that targets LGBTQ+ youth under the guise of parental rights. All students deserve a supportive, inclusive educational experience.
