A presidential pardon does not apply to state crimes, Tina Peters.
To: Gov. Polis
From: A constituent in Arvada, CO
March 7
As a Colorado native and democracy advocate, I respectfully write to you today. Please do not capitulate to President Donald J Trump by releasing or reducing Tina Peters sentence. She has broken state and federal laws, was tried and convicted. The charges included three felony counts of attempting to influence a public servant, conspiracy to commit criminal impersonation, first-degree official misconduct, and other violations stemming from her efforts to access and tamper with voting equipment in pursuit of unfounded claims of election fraud following the 2020 presidential election. Capitulating to anything he is asking for, 6 years later, will bring more power to voter/election deniers and aid in further conspiracy theory about our democratic system he is trying to dismantle.
Please stand up for our democracy and the integrity of your governing office of our treasured state by protecting our elections and state laws. This is not politics. This is about the law in which she broke and must be held accountable. The people of Colorado stand behind you to not give into his pressures and threats. Thank you.
