Uphold the Veto of SB1002 - Protect and Affirm Trans Students

To: Sen. Sundareshan, Rep. Mathis, Rep. Gutierrez

From: A verified voter in Tucson, AZ

August 2

This proposed legislation infringes on the rights and well-being of transgender and gender non-conforming students. Forcing students to be addressed by names and pronouns that do not align with their gender identity can be deeply harmful and distressing. It stigmatizes and marginalizes an already vulnerable group of young people. All students deserve to have their identities respected and to feel safe and supported in their learning environment. This bill promotes discrimination and creates an unwelcoming school climate. I urge you to reject this misguided proposal in favor of policies that protect and affirm LGBTQ+ youth. Schools should be inclusive spaces where every student can thrive.
