An Open Letter

To: Gov. Moore, Del. Long, Sen. Jackson

From: A constituent in North Beach, MD

August 17

Governor Moore, Senator Jackson, and Delegate Long, I am writing to urge you to stand firm in defending Maryland from the Trump administration’s escalating attacks on our state. Maryland has already been punished with withheld disaster relief, clawed-back education funding, and blocked infrastructure support. Now, the threat of federalizing law enforcement and deploying troops against our citizens looms over us. Governor Moore, your refusal to authorize Maryland National Guard forces for Trump’s political agenda sends a clear message: our state will not be used as a pawn in authoritarian power grabs. I ask that you, along with our state legislators, continue to hold the line. Please work together to: • Safeguard Maryland’s right to self-governance against federal overreach. • Ensure disaster aid, education funding, and transportation resources are restored. • Protect our communities from militarization and uphold civilian control of the military. • Defend local democracy, from school boards to city councils, against outside political interference. Maryland is a test case. What happens here will shape how far federal overreach spreads to other states. I call on you to use every legal, political, and community channel available to resist these attacks and to protect Maryland families. Thank you for your leadership. Please continue to defend our state and our democracy.
