North Carolina election officials recently provided updated information on the number of ballots potentially impacted by legal challenges in the state's Supreme Court race. While initially over 5,000 military and overseas ballots were at risk of rejection, the latest filing clarifies that only 1,409 ballots from Guilford County face challenges based on missing voter ID. An additional 266 overseas voters may need to confirm their residency status to have their votes counted. This significantly reduces the number of voters who could be disenfranchised compared to initial concerns. However, any disenfranchisement of lawfully cast ballots is concerning and undermines faith in our electoral process. We must ensure the voice of every eligible voter is heard and counted accurately. I urge you to work to protect the voting rights of all North Carolinians, including military and overseas voters who follow proper procedures. Facilitate the ballot curing process so these citizens can provide any missing information and have their votes counted as intended. Upholding free and fair elections is a core democratic principle that must be zealously guarded. Please take action to ensure no lawful voter is wrongly disenfranchised.
