Oppose the SAVE Act

To: Sen. Rosen, Sen. Cortez Masto

From: A constituent in North Las Vegas, NV

April 13, 2025

Please oppose the SAVE Act and encourage your on-the-fence colleagues to do the same. I vote in Nevada as a mail-in voter because my spouse is in the Navy. Voting is incredibly important to me and I've made sure to vote (in a different state before we were married and in NV afterwards) in every election possible. I was so impressed with how simple it was to use NV's online platform to register and vote. Without that, both my spouse and I definitely would have struggled to participate because we had recently relocated to a new state before an election. My birth certificate doesn't have my current last name -- not because I changed it when I married, but because I grew up in a quilted family and my name was changed for me as a child. I'm also lucky enough to have a current passport, which shows the correct name. Regardless of this, as a military family, I'm not sure how we would vote given what the SAVE Act is proposing. I understand why people say that verifying citizenship before federal elections is 'normal'. But from what I've read, instances of non-citizens voting is rate. This makes sense to me because I work in immigration and the implications on their status from doing so are catastrophic. The SAVE Act feels like a massive overcorrection to a nearly non-existent problem. So much so that I agree with the general sentiment that this is voter suppression disguised as another 'normal' inconvenience in the name of security. I assume that you are already planning to vote against it, but I urge you to also consider ways you can encourage your colleagues to do the same.
