COLUMBUS, Ohio —
Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine is calling for a special session to ensure President Joe Biden will be on the state's November ballot.
This year, the Democratic National Convention is scheduled for Aug. 19-22, which falls after Ohio’s Aug. 7 ballot deadline.

DeWine said a special session will meet Tuesday to pass legislation ensuring both candidates are on the Ohio ballot. It's the first special session called in Ohio since 2004.
While the urgent need is to ensure President Joe Biden appears on Ohio’s November ballot, the fix will be attached to another bill prohibiting foreign nationals from donating to Ohio ballot campaigns.
It’s something Ohio Democrats are calling “political gamesmanship.”
“We had a deal for weeks, that was bipartisan to just pass a clean bill to get the president on the ballot. It’s what they did in Alabama,” Ohio House Minority Whip Rep. Dani Isaacsohn (D-Cincinnati) said. “We had a bipartisan group in the House that would have supported it.”
“Instead, what the Senate Republicans, and now partnered with Governor DeWine, are trying to force is to say no, no, no. You want the president on the ballot? Here are the things we want, and the things we want are going after ballot initiatives.”
