I am writing to express my deep concern over recent reports suggesting that former President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk (through DOGE) are considering dismantling or privatizing the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This reckless move would devastate millions of veterans who depend on the VA for healthcare and essential services. I urge you and your colleagues in Congress to take immediate and decisive action to safeguard the VA and ensure that those who have sacrificed for our country are not abandoned. The VA is not just another government agency—it is a lifeline for countless veterans who served our nation with honor and courage. Many of these men and women suffer from service-related injuries, PTSD, and chronic conditions that require specialized, continuous care. Without the VA, they would have nowhere to turn. The stark reality is that if the VA is dismantled, many veterans will die. Delays in treatment, lack of access to affordable care, and reliance on an already overburdened private healthcare system will lead to tragic and preventable losses. Privatization or elimination of the VA would break the sacred promise our country made to those who were willing to put their lives on the line to defend our freedoms. The idea that billionaires and political figures would prioritize profit over the well-being of our veterans is unacceptable. Our government must stand firm in protecting the VA, ensuring that it remains fully funded, efficiently run, and committed to serving those who have already given so much. As an American citizen who is proud to come from a military family, I demand that Congress take immediate action to prevent any efforts to dismantle or privatize the VA. Our nation must honor its commitment to those who served, and that starts with protecting and strengthening the very institution designed to care for them. I urge you to publicly oppose any efforts to undermine the VA and to support legislation that expands and improves its services, rather than handing them over to private interests who do not have veterans’ best interests at heart. I—and millions of other concerned Americans—will be watching closely and expecting strong leadership on this issue.
