Senator Banks, I urge you to vote AGAINST confirming Todd Blanche as Attorney General. This is not a partisan objection. More than 1,200 former Justice Department officials who served under fourteen administrations of both parties have signed a letter opposing him — among them John Dowd, the President's own former personal attorney, and Ty Cobb, a lawyer in the first Trump White House, who has said flatly that Blanche is unfit. More than 2,600 attorneys and the New York City Bar Association agree. I understand Senators Cornyn and Tillis will now advance the nomination because Mr. Blanche signed an order rescinding the anti-weaponization fund. Consider what his signature is worth. He swore to this body in 2025 that he would follow career ethics officials' guidance on recusal from matters involving the President; he disregarded that guidance, and the official who gave it was fired. He directed a Department lawyer to tell a federal court there was no settlement with the President — one day before signing the addendum that created the fund and released the President's family from IRS audits. A judge has since voided that agreement as brought in bad faith. Sunday's order carries Mr. Blanche's signature alone, though the settlement it amends requires assent from all parties, and the audit release stands. In June, a federal judge found Mr. Blanche had conceded he was violating the Epstein Files Transparency Act, after he declared full compliance while withholding half the files for reasons the statute does not permit. Among what he blacked out: the names of potential Epstein co-defendants, and FBI interview notes mentioning the President himself. Please vote NO.
