Resist Schedule F

To: Rep. Kiggans, Sen. Kaine, Sen. Warner

From: A constituent in Virginia Beach, VA

November 25

I am writing to you as a concerned constituent regarding the recently proposed final regulations by the Office of Personnel Management concerning the Schedule Policy/Career classification, formerly known as Schedule F. I am deeply opposed to these changes and urge you to take action against them. The draft final regulations seek to classify tens of thousands of federal employees into a new category where they would essentially become at-will employees, stripping them of crucial civil service protections. This move raises significant concerns about the politicization of the federal workforce, contrary to the very foundations laid by the 1978 Civil Service Reform Act to ensure neutrality and political independence in federal service. The claim that these protections are "unconstitutional overcorrections" is troubling, as it undermines the safeguards against a return to the outdated "spoils system." It is imperative that we protect the integrity and independence of our civil service from political interference. The risk of eroding these protections can lead to detrimental impacts on the morale and effectiveness of federal employees, who are tasked with the important work of implementing policies and serving the public. Furthermore, with 94% of the public comments opposing this regulatory move, it is evident that there is widespread disapproval and concern among both federal employees and the public alike. It is crucial to heed these voices in maintaining a robust and politically impartial civil service. I urge you to oppose these proposed regulations and to support legislation that protects our federal workforce from unjust removal and ensures accountability in a manner that respects their rights and contributions. Thank you for your attention to this critical issue. I look forward to your support in preserving the integrity and stability of our civil service system.
