Save our public school funding!

To: Rep. Denson, Sen. Ingram, Gov. DeWine

From: A constituent in Cincinnati, OH

May 31

I am writing to express my deep concern regarding any efforts to defund or reduce support for public schools in our great state of Ohio. As a resident of Cincinnati, and with children that attend Cincinnati Public Schools, I see firsthand the essential role our public schools play in supporting not only students' education but their overall well-being. Public schools are far more than just classrooms for academic instruction. They are lifelines for many children and families. Schools in our communities provide meals—breakfast, lunch, and even snacks—and many go a step further by sending food home for evenings and weekends. They offer health check-ups, haircuts, shoes and clothing, psychological support, and access to crucial community resources. Families depend on these services, and they are especially vital for students who are struggling academically or emotionally. Ohio has over 18% of its children living in poverty, and in cities like Cincinnati, that number rises to well over 40%. Defunding public schools would be catastrophic for these communities. It would mean stripping away essential services from our most vulnerable children. This is not just a policy issue—it is a moral one. Denying children basic resources and safe learning environments is not only unjust; it is dangerous. I urge you to uphold your commitment to the children and families of Ohio by fully supporting the Fair School Funding Plan. We must ensure that our public schools receive the funding necessary to provide a quality, equitable education and meet the basic needs of every child. Please stand with Ohio’s children and families. Protect public school funding.
