Stop Trump's gag rule on public lands leasing
Dear President Trump, Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, BLM staff and experts.
I am writing to oppose these new rules that would reduce public input on fossil fuel leasing on public lands, while leaving taxpayers on the hook for cleanup costs, and dramatically increasing global warming pollution.
These new rules are a terrible idea. And I am especially appalled at the proposal that anyone who files a comment longer than 50 pages — including attachments and exhibits — would now have to pay $1 per page. That’s a direct fine on individuals and organizations that routinely gather scientific evidence, direct observations, and frontline impact stories and submit them to the public record.
I know this is only the latest in this regimes’ ongoing efforts to pay off big oil backers at the expense of our climate and communities - but this time it’s extra galling.
I urge you to reject this proposed rule, and allow the 2024 regulations to stand un-altered.
