Address AI Safety and take the warnings from those closest to the technology for real. They have been warning about the risk for years already. Now the threat is growing at the scale that computers can operate at. The connectedness and reliance of the digital world makes it possible for any single incident to proliferate at a rate unheard of in human history. Life always gives us warnings. Please heed the ones we’ve already gotten. Pass legislation and work globally to ensure humans can survive the threat of our own making. HR 9497 is a good start, but has loopholes and lacks real teeth. Bernie’s Sanders’ ban on Superintelligence is the wiser path. Start from there, not from the weaker position. The AI companies are begging for regulation, and it doesn’t seem motivated by aims of regulatory capture. The world is watching. You are our appointed voices. We’re being dragged along this path. Put aside your differences with the other side, both nationally and globally, and come to a solution for the sake of humanity.
