An Open Letter

To: Rep. Mast, Sen. Scott, Sen. Moody

From: A constituent in Jupiter, FL

June 15

I am writing to you today as a constituent to make my position unequivocally clear regarding the future of Social Security. Recent proposals and attempts to alter the foundational structure of Social Security (specifically any measures that reduce guaranteed benefits, raise the retirement age, or transition public funds into private brokerage accounts) are entirely unacceptable. Social Security is an earned benefit that generations of Americans have paid into with every single paycheck. It is not a slush fund, nor is it a gambling chip for Wall Street. If you are genuinely concerned about the long-term solvency of the program, the solution is clear. I expect you to champion and support legislation that stabilizes the system through two specific actions: 1. Remove the Taxable Wage Ceiling: Completely eliminate the cap on taxable wages so that high earners contribute their fair share to the program on all of their income. 2. Implement a Personal Wealth Cap: Institute a means test for benefits that caps or eliminates payouts to individuals with a personal net worth exceeding $2,500,000. At that level of wealth, there is no legitimate need for public assistance. To ensure fairness, this must include a clawback provision: should an individual's financial circumstances change and their personal assets drop below that $2,500,000 ceiling, they must be allowed to apply or reapply for their full benefits at that later date. Please consider this a direct notice: any action to undermine, reduce, or privatize this program will be viewed by myself, and millions of Americans across the political spectrum, as a non-negotiable betrayal. To show voters your true commitment to saving Social Security, we want to see you pass this bipartisan legislation by October 1st. Make it happen or watch your majority dwindle to near nothing. Anyone caught supporting, sabotaging, or scheming to weaken this program will be actively targeted for removal from office this coming November or in the following election cycle. Better get a move on it.
