Oppose Appropriations Bills that Fund ICE
To: Sen. Scott, Sen. Graham
From: A verified voter in Columbia, SC
January 22
I’m writing to urge you to vehemently oppose any appropriations bill for the department of homeland security that maintains any funding for ICE. This arm of “law enforcement” has acted above the law when everyone is subject to the rule of it - there is no such thing as absolute immunity. ICE must be defunded and face serious reforms against use of force and racial biases against the black and brown people of this country. Even if someone were to come to this country illegally, the degree of federal misdemeanor it falls under is the same as tampering with someone else’s mail or smoking marijuana in a public park. Would someone be violently and forcibly detained or even killed for either of these crimes in the same manner that ICE have persecuted immigrants?! I don’t think so, and I know that these horrific actions will be revisited as a bloody stain on our country’s history. Please stand up and speak out against this violence.
