An Open Letter

To: Sen. Rogers, Gov. Hobbs, Rep. Blackman, Rep. Marshall

From: A constituent in Flagstaff, AZ

March 4

The proposed legislation to cut state funding for Arizona public colleges and universities offering diversity, equity and inclusion courses is deeply concerning. Denying funds based on curriculum that examines systemic issues like racism, bias, and inequity would undermine academic freedom and impede critical thinking on campuses. A well-rounded education should expose students to diverse perspectives and prepare them to address complex societal challenges. Cutting funding over DEI content promotes an insular viewpoint antithetical to the exploratory mission of higher education. I urge you to reject this bill and uphold support for curricula that foster open discourse and responsible analysis of social dynamics. Advancing an inclusive educational environment ultimately benefits all students and the state's future.
