As a state committed to protecting the rights and well-being of all residents, we must reject House Bill 1038 which seeks to prohibit gender-affirming care for transgender minors. This regressive legislation would endanger the health and lives of vulnerable youth by denying them essential medical treatments endorsed by leading health organizations. It disregards the overwhelming evidence that gender-affirming care improves mental health outcomes and reduces rates of depression and suicidal ideation among trans youth. Rather than enabling discrimination, we should be working to create an inclusive society that supports our transgender community members in living authentically. I urge you to stand on the side of equality, compassion, and science by voting no on HB 1038.
