Subject: Opposition to Trump's Statement on Law and Authority
Dear Representative,
I am writing to express my deep concern regarding President Donald Trump’s recent statement: “He who saves his country does not violate any law.” This assertion, along with his apparent belief that he is above the law, is not only dangerous but also fundamentally incompatible with the principles of our Constitution and the rule of law that underpins our democracy.
The United States was founded on the principle of three co-equal branches of government—Executive, Legislative, and Judicial—each with distinct powers and responsibilities designed to prevent any one branch from exceeding its authority. The Executive Branch, including the President, is subject to oversight by Congress and judicial review by the courts. When Trump suggests that he is immune from legal consequences in pursuit of what he considers "saving" the country, he directly challenges the balance of power and threatens to erode the constitutional structure that protects our democracy.
Trump's statement seems to justify lawlessness under the guise of nationalism, echoing rhetoric that has historically led to authoritarianism. This should alarm every American who values the integrity of our legal system.
I urge you to publicly condemn this statement and take legislative action, if necessary, to reaffirm that no one— including the President—is above the law. Safeguarding our democratic institutions and ensuring accountability for all is not a partisan issue; it is a foundational principle that preserves our government.
Thank you for your time and consideration on this matter. I would appreciate knowing how you intend to address this issue and I look forward to your response.
Sincerely,
A concerned United States citizen
