I’m asking for an immediate investigation and reform of Maryland’s E-ZPass toll and debt collection system.
Too many residents are receiving toll violations for vehicles they don’t own or never registered. These inaccurate charges are sent straight to the Central Collection Unit (CCU), which aggressively collects without verifying the debt. This ruins credit and causes harm, especially to low-income Marylanders, with no proper dispute process.
I’m calling for:
1. Independent review of all toll violations before sending to CCU and review of all violations sent to CCU in the past.
2. Clear documentation showing vehicle ownership linked to each charge.
3. Consideration of ending toll-based funding altogether and exploring better public alternatives.
Please take action to protect Marylanders from unjust debt and fix the broken E-ZPass system.
