I’m writing for a couple of reasons: First, what is the Senator doing about our air travel crisis? Because the Trump administration’s rank incompetence is going to lead to catastrophe. This is literally all their fault: first, the FAA was left without leadership after Musk forced the Administrator to resign. Then Trump fired TSA’s leadership and dismantled the Aviation Security Advisory Committee. Then Trump offered air traffic controllers buyouts even though we had a nationwide staffing shortage. And now Americans are terrified to fly. Congress needs to act. My grandfather is 94 and lives on the other side of the country, the closest airport to me is Newark which is in such disarray that people have been saying to “avoid it at all costs”. I was planning to fly out to see my grandfather in July and now i’m worried that it won’t be safe enough, but if I don’t go I may never see my grandfather again given his age. My brother is also training to be a pilot in the airspace around Newark and I am terrified every time he goes up. He told me that air traffic controllers are so understaffed and overworked that assistance that would normally be provided, like having them double check with radar to see that the way is really clear instead of just having to rely on only what he can see with his own eyes, has been repeatedly denied. An entire family from my hometown including a boy I went to school with just died in a small plane crash a few weeks ago. This isn’t a game, this can’t be left to chance. People’s lives are at risk. This needs to be fixed, immediately. Also, I’m seeing increasingly alarming footage of ICE arrests around the country. These officers wear masks, show no ID, are often brutal when conducting arrests, and seem accountable to no one. What the hell is happening in this country? Abusing immigrants doesn’t make us safer—it just makes us evil. We need hearings into ICE’s unlawful behavior. Will the Senator call for them? And what is the senator going to do to make sure that our right to peacefully protest remains protected? They just arrested the Mayor of Newark today, and while he has since been released, us regular citizens do not have the benefit of such immediate and heated responses to speed up release. This is completely absurd, and also a page straight out of the Nazi playbook. I don’t want another instagram perfect typed statement, I want actual action. I want a game plan. What are you going to do to stop this train we’re on, and what do you need from me to do it? If you don’t have a plan, I will find someone who does.
