An Open Letter

To: Sen. Scott, Sen. Moody

From: A constituent in Winter Park, FL

May 2

We are 1 day past the deadline for congressional approval on the war in Iran. Under the War Powers Act, the president was required to seek authorization or withdraw forces within 60 days. A temporary ceasefire does not reset that clock, and the continued U.S. military buildup in the region makes clear that hostilities have not truly ended. Moreover, the ongoing blockade of Iranian ports is not a neutral action; a blockade is an act of war. This is not a technicality. It is a constitutional obligation. Congress alone has the authority to declare war, and that responsibility cannot be bypassed through legal maneuvering or semantic arguments. I do not want my tax dollars spent on a war of choice. I want them invested here at home, building a better, more stable, and more just society for my daughter, who is just beginning her adult life. I urge you to assert your authority, demand compliance with the law, and ensure that any further military action is subject to proper congressional approval
