Vote No on Middle East War Funding Without Congressional Authorization
To: Sen. Lee, Rep. Maloy, Sen. Curtis
From: A constituent in Salt Lake City, UT
March 11
Vote no on any supplemental funding request for military operations in the Middle East. This war lacks congressional authorization, and reports suggest the administration is preparing to request tens of billions of dollars with no clear timeline for ending the campaign. Some estimates put daily spending at $2 billion. That's unsustainable and unconstitutional.
Congress cannot write a blank check for an unauthorized conflict. The shifting rationales and open-ended commitment echo the mistakes of Vietnam. Fiscal hawks in your own party recognize this spending is reckless, especially without offsets. The administration hasn't even provided specific cost estimates to lawmakers in closed-door briefings, yet they expect you to approve potentially $50 billion or more.
I also oppose any funding for DHS or ICE without major reforms to these agencies. Their current operations lack accountability and oversight. Any appropriations bill that includes funding for these agencies must include substantial structural changes and transparency requirements.
Stand with fiscal responsibility and constitutional governance. Demand congressional authorization before funding this war, and refuse to fund DHS or ICE without the reforms Americans deserve.
