I'm asking you to support the Prior Authorization Relief Act, written by Senator Whitehouse, which eliminates prior authorization requirements imposed by insurance companies. These bureaucratic barriers delay critical medical care and force doctors to waste hours justifying treatments they've already determined are necessary.
My doctor knows what treatment I need, but insurance companies insert themselves between us with paperwork designed to deny or delay care. Patients wait days or weeks for approvals while conditions worsen. Physicians spend an average of two business days per week on prior authorization instead of treating patients. This drives up healthcare costs while making care less accessible.
Prior authorization doesn't protect patients. It protects insurance company profits by creating obstacles to the care we've already paid for through our premiums. When my doctor prescribes a medication or procedure, that decision should be final. Pass the Prior Authorization Relief Act and let medical professionals do their jobs without interference from corporate bureaucrats whose only goal is minimizing payouts.
