Protect PBS—Support Education, Families, and Our Future
To: Rep. Simpson
From: A constituent in Boise, ID
May 4
I’m writing to urge you to protect funding for PBS, a cornerstone of American education, culture, and community service. For decades, PBS has provided free, high-quality educational content to millions of families across the country, especially those who cannot afford costly cable or private streaming services. Shows like Sesame Street, Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, Reading Rainbow, and countless others have educated and shaped generations of children—including myself.
PBS is not just television—it is a lifeline. Nearly 120 million people watch PBS each month, and over 68% of all U.S. households with children under 8 use PBS Kids content. In rural and low-income communities, PBS may be the only accessible educational media.
Cutting funding for PBS isn’t just bad policy—it’s an insult to the millions of Americans who rely on this trusted institution. Anyone who wants to dismantle something so foundational to learning, empathy, and civic engagement should reflect on who they are really serving. Stop bending to partisan pressure and remember the people you represent—families, educators, and children who depend on you to fight for resources that matter.
PBS has helped raise and educate generations of Americans. Please don’t be the one who lets it go.
