Stop allowing the Elons of the world buy positions of power.
To: Sen. Kim, Sen. Booker, Rep. Kean

I am writing to urge you to take meaningful legislative action to end the outsized influence of large campaign contributions on our electoral system. The integrity of our democracy depends on fair competition—not on which candidate can attract the wealthiest benefactors at the most strategic moment.
Recent elections have made this imbalance impossible to ignore. In New Jersey, for example, Tom Kean Jr. narrowly secured victory after a last-minute influx of substantial funding, reportedly including a million-dollar contribution linked to Elon Musk. Regardless of political affiliation, this raises a fundamental concern: when enormous financial resources can be deployed at the eleventh hour, they can overshadow grassroots support, distort messaging, and ultimately tilt the playing field.
This is not how a representative democracy should function. The best candidate—the one with the strongest ideas, the deepest commitment to public service, and the broadest support among constituents—should not be at a disadvantage simply because they lack access to extreme wealth or powerful donors.
I urge Congress to consider and advance legislation that:
- Places strict limits on large individual and corporate contributions
- Increases transparency and real-time disclosure of campaign funding
- Expands public financing options to empower small donors
- Closes loopholes that allow last-minute financial interventions to disproportionately influence outcomes
The American people deserve elections that reflect their voices—not the financial power of a select few. Confidence in our democratic institutions depends on your willingness to act decisively to restore fairness and equity in campaign financing.
We are watching, and we expect action.
