Demand Accountability and Action: Stop the Destruction of Emergency Food Aid

To: Sen. Warner, Rep. McGuire, Sen. Kaine

From: A constituent in Charlottesville, VA

July 16

I am writing as your constituent to demand immediate action in response to a deeply disturbing revelation: the Trump administration ordered the incineration of nearly 500 metric tons of emergency food aid, specifically high-energy biscuits intended for malnourished children in Afghanistan and Pakistan. These rations, valued at $800,000 and stored in Dubai, were destroyed despite repeated warnings from federal staff that they were urgently needed and nearing expiration. This decision is not only morally indefensible but strategically reckless. The destruction of this aid undermines U.S. global leadership, squanders taxpayer-funded resources, and abandons the most vulnerable—children—at a time of mounting global hunger. According to the World Food Programme, over 45 million people across 51 countries are currently at risk of famine. U.S. food aid is a lifeline. I urge you to: 1 Publicly condemn this decision and demand a full investigation into the incineration order; 2 Support legislation protecting emergency international aid from future political interference; 3 Hold oversight hearings on how U.S. aid is managed and protected during transitions of power. This moment calls for moral clarity and courageous leadership. America's humanitarian credibility is at stake.
