Activating the Missouri National Guard when there has not been any violent protests in the state is completely inappropriate. It clearly sends a message meant to intimidate the citizens of our state and discourage lawful assembly protected under the Constitution. Additionally, the act of sending soldiers to peaceful protests is likely to escalate the situation and may cause what it claims to prevent. Order the Guard to stand down.
