Reject HB 1684, protect personal autonomy in divorce proceedings
To: Rep. Porter
From: A verified voter in Indianapolis, IN
January 22
This proposed legislation places undue burdens on individuals seeking to dissolve their marriages, infringing on their personal autonomy and privacy. The requirement to have corroborating testimony from third parties about the irretrievable breakdown of the marriage is an unjustified overreach. Divorce is already an emotionally taxing process without imposing such obstacles. People should have the right to end an unhappy union based solely on their own assertion, without having to reveal intimate details to others or meet arbitrary evidentiary standards. This bill needlessly complicates and prolongs divorce proceedings. I urge you to oppose HB 1684 and uphold individuals' ability to make decisions about their marital status free from excessive government interference.
