Do NOT Pass the Great Salt Lake Amendments Bill — LEAVE THE LAKE ALONE

To: Rep. Eliason, Sen. Riebe

From: A constituent in Sandy, UT

September 26, 2025

On the behalf of Utahns, I must demand that you oppose the passing of the "Great Salt Lake Amendments” bill. Destroying the north arm of the Great Salt Lake to quell your opponents' cries for action by thinking they're too stupid to understand that the lake is not only NOT fixed by this, but irreparably damaged, is beyond idiotic. We will not let you get away with it if you do pass it, so heed your constituents and DO NOT PASS IT; Pass it even if you're too blinded to see that the effects on the ecosystem will be apocalyptic, and you're also too ignorant to understand that we as people are NOT separate entities from our environment and WILL BE AFFECTED BY THE POISONOUS METALS, OFFGASSING, AND CONTAMINANTS stored by the lake bottom. If you poison Northern Utah, expect worse, tenfold, to come to you. Biblically, karmically, legally, and realistically. Tyler Robinson proved that Utahns will NOT stand for behavior like this, even if he went too far. In the event that you do vote to pass it, consider every vote in White City for your re-election lost. My city stands by the GSL. UTAH stands for the GSL. Restoring water levels to natural, acceptable limits would be extremely easy—and countless researchers and volunteers alike from our top universities have already done the hard work for you. All the Utah state government needs to do is buck up and say no to inefficient water usage for farming. How childish is it to say we must use all the water we receive from the Colorado River Compact before more southern states deserve? How childish is it to use a reusable resource until it becomes unusable? You allow our pusillanimous governor to make himself (not you!) richer by growing incredibly water-intensive alfalfa, only to sell it all to China? If you would rather enrich the Chinese government and its farmers than simply take action (which, again, is simply a cessation of action, not new or expensive projects like this) then expect the American people to turn on you. If you would rather spend tens of millions of taxpayer money on a hopeless project than simply saving our priceless lake, expect your citizens to act in the image of Mangione. Of Princip. Of Yamagani. We aren't doing this not listening thing any more.
