Oppose Casey Means' Nomination for US Surgeon General

To: Rep. Wittman, Sen. Kaine, Sen. Warner

From: A constituent in Yorktown, VA

October 29

I am writing to express my strong opposition to the nomination of Casey Means for the position of US Surgeon General. This appointment is deeply concerning given Ms. Means' background and the critical nature of this role in safeguarding public health. Casey Means, known primarily as a wellness influencer, has a lapsed medical license and a troubling history of promoting misinformation about childhood vaccinations. This stance is particularly alarming in light of the current measles outbreak, which underscores the vital importance of evidence-based public health policies and widespread vaccination. The position of Surgeon General requires a candidate with impeccable medical credentials and a commitment to scientifically-proven health practices. Ms. Means' promotion of pseudoscientific remedies and her anti-vaccination stance directly contradict these requirements. Her appointment would undermine public trust in health institutions at a time when such trust is crucial. I urge you to oppose Casey Means' nomination and advocate for a candidate who possesses the necessary qualifications and dedication to evidence-based medicine. The health of our nation depends on having a Surgeon General who will champion scientifically-sound policies and effectively combat misinformation. Please take immediate action to voice your opposition to this nomination. Our public health infrastructure and the well-being of countless Americans are at stake. We need a Surgeon General who will prioritize proven medical science over social media influence and pseudoscientific claims.
