I am writing to urge you to vote in favor of releasing all Department of Homeland Security records related to the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent on January 7, 2026. This case demands immediate transparency and accountability. Renee Nicole Good was a 37-year-old U.S. citizen and mother of three who was shot and killed by an ICE agent in Minneapolis. Video footage shows ICE agents cursing at her while she sat in her parked SUV, pulling on her door, and ultimately shooting her as she drove away before her vehicle crashed into a utility pole. While Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem claimed Good tried to run over an officer, state and local officials have disputed this characterization. Even President Trump called the shooting "a vicious situation" and "horrible to watch." The circumstances surrounding this investigation are deeply troubling. Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara confirmed that Minneapolis police officers were not on scene when the deadly force occurred. More concerning, the FBI forced the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension to withdraw from investigating the shooting. Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison called this "deeply concerning, extremely disappointing," questioning what federal authorities are "afraid of" regarding an independent investigation. When federal agents use deadly force against American citizens, the public has a right to know what happened and why. Blocking the release of these records sends a message that protecting federal agents matters more than the life of an American citizen and mother of three children. This is not about politics. This is about basic accountability and transparency in government. No American should be shot by federal agents without a full and transparent investigation. I urge you to vote to release all DHS records related to this shooting immediately so that Renee Nicole Good's family and the American people can understand what happened and ensure this never happens again.
