Require transparency, accountability for ICE community operations

To: Sen. Kaine, Rep. Cline, Sen. Warner

From: A verified voter in Fort Defiance, VA

June 4

It is concerning to see the presence of ICE agents in communities, as recently witnessed at the South San Jose market. While immigration enforcement is a complex issue, unidentified or unaccountable agents raise legitimate fears. Government authorities should operate transparently and be clearly identifiable to the public they serve. We request that ICE agents be required to visibly display credentials and badges when conducting operations that impact our communities. Increased transparency and accountability measures are needed to ensure residents' rights are protected and to build trust between law enforcement and all members of our diverse communities. Immigration policies must balance security with human rights and human dignity.
