Constituent Opposition to the Save America Act
To: Sen. Moody, Rep. Lee, Sen. Scott
From: A verified voter in Tampa, FL
March 12
I am writing as a constituent to express my strong and unequivocal opposition to the so-called “Save America Act.” Despite its title, the direction and implications of this legislation appear to undermine rather than strengthen the democratic principles that sustain our country. The strength of the United States has always depended on elections that are fair, accessible, and trusted by the public. Policies that make voting more difficult, encourage intimidation or harassment at polling places, or manipulate electoral rules for partisan advantage weaken that foundation rather than protect it. One of the most troubling aspects of this legislation is the continued emphasis on voter fraud as justification for sweeping restrictions. Decades of research and investigation from across the political spectrum have consistently shown that voter fraud in the United States is extraordinarily rare. In national elections involving well over 150 million ballots, verified cases of in-person voter fraud often total only a handful or a few dozen incidents nationwide—frequently fewer than one hundred. Statistically, the likelihood of such fraud has often been described as lower than the odds of being struck by lightning. When such violations do occur, they are already illegal and prosecuted under existing law. Constructing broad restrictions on voting around a problem of such microscopic scale is not responsible governance. Instead, it risks disenfranchising lawful voters, including seniors, students, military families, and citizens who simply cannot navigate increasingly complex voting requirements. Equally concerning are policies that enable continued partisan manipulation of electoral districts. When district boundaries are engineered to predetermine outcomes rather than reflect real communities, voters no longer choose their representatives—representatives choose their voters. That undermines the very concept of representative government. Support for legislation that restricts access to voting, exaggerates nonexistent problems, or distorts representation will weigh heavily in how I evaluate candidates seeking my vote in the future. I urge you to oppose the Save America Act and instead support policies that strengthen confidence in free, fair, and accessible elections for all eligible citizens. I would appreciate a clear response outlining your position on this legislation.
