The Trump administration on Wednesday declined to extend the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement, starting a decade-long clock to wind down the trade deal as it seeks changes to try to reshore manufacturing jobs and reduce U.S. trade deficits with its North American neighbors.
First Trump insisted on tarrifs that every financial expert told him would cost the American people and hurt our trade relationships, and now this
Mexico and Canada are our neighbors and have been close allies, and yet Trump wants to end the USMCA, despite the harm it will cause American consumers.
Ending the USMCA would immediately disrupt the $1.9 trillion North American trade zone. The primary downside to this disruption includes widespread supply chain chaos, severe job losses, spiking consumer prices, and a collapse in investor confidence that would cripple critical industries like auto manufacturing, energy, and agriculture.
Trump clearly does not care about the American people or the affordability crisis we face.
