Are we serious right now? This is winning? Having children not attending school because families are afraid of ICE raids? Having their friends worried to death that something bad has happened to them? Elementary, middle, and highschool students mobilizing to protect their classmates however they, as actual children, know how?
I'm absolutely sick tonight as ICE made their presence known at many NC schools today. As my own children shed tears, worried for their friends. It's easy to classify a group of people as "other," or "bad," until you remember each and every one of these "others" happen to be a person. Your neighbor, friend, a mother, father, child. And to make matters worse, this doesn't just impact one person or family, it impacts entire communities.
Who are we really keeping safe right now? We are so much better than this and it's about time we act like it.
